Poetry of Place
Celebrating the local area in poetry.
Once a month on the first Tuesday, I get into my car and drive to Armidale to meet and share poetry with the Poetzinc Group. In May we were challenged by Ashley to write a poem about Armidale and “Armidale Autumn: A Sonnet” is the result. Yesterday I was contacted by ABC New England North West radio station to talk about our Saturday morning market. That phone call prompted me to write a new “Guyra” poem titled “ Guyra Warmth.
The Australian Poetry Hall of Fame, located in Guyra, celebrates the country's rich poetry tradition. Set in the historic Arcadia Theatre, it creates a welcoming space for poetry lovers and visitors. The Poet's Hall of Fame honors significant Australian poets and their work, promoting literary appreciation. The Australian Poetry Library and Archive offers a wide collection of poetry that showcases diverse voices from across the nation.
Additionally, the Seahorse Medicine Cafe provides healthy meals made from local ingredients, making it an ideal spot for meaningful discussions about poetry and life. The Australian Poetry Hall of Fame is a lively center for creativity, connection, and cultural exchange, ensuring that poetry remains vibrant in the community.
Armidale Autumn, a tapestry of gold,
With leaves that flutter like whispers of fate,
Each breath of wind a story retold,
In nature's arms, solitude does await.
The sun dips low, painting skies in a blaze,
As daylight wanes, and shadows begin to dance,
In the stillness, time slows its racing pace,
Enchanting moments bloom, a fleeting chance.
The crisp air carries scents of earth and pine,
Underfoot, crunching leaves, a rustling song,
Within this beauty, the heart’s pulse aligns,
In autumn’s glow, we find where we belong.
So let us wander, lost in this embrace,
In Armidale's charm, we discover our place.
